Description

In diabetes, involvement of the kidney can result in persistent proteinuria (Kimmelstein-Wilson Syndrome, Diabetic Intercapillary Glomerulosclerosis). Microalbuminuria is proteinuria that is above normal but which is below the level detected by urine dipsticks. Diabetic patients with microalbuminuria tend to have progression of their disease with cardiovascular and end-stage renal complications.
