A modification of the NCEP II treatment criteria for cholesterol reduction was made to give greater weight to age as a coronary heart disease risk factor. This modification improves the ability to discriminate between higher and lower coronary heart disease risk groups. The revised system retains its classification ability in all age groups studied.
