The Expert Committee of the American Diabetes Association proposed revised criteria for the diagnosis of abnormal glucose homeostasis in 1997. This was intended to develop a uniform terminology and to develop a functional, working classification reflecting advances in knowledge since the previous recommendations published in 1979.
